" Originally from Kazan(current republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation), Roman has always been attracted and fascinated by contemporary art and experimental music. He started his solo project - Corell in 2017 when after the split up with his band, he decided to make music on his own. After he moved to Moscow, he started to focus on techno and ambient music, attempting in his work to find a distinctive sound through combining polymetric beats, atmospheres, textures, mutating and morphing loops, and rhizomatic composition structures. In February 2020 he released "Optimism" EP for Alexandar and he's currently working on a new album which will be about the philosophy of transhumanism and the possible side effect on human society "
MIX FOR VIOLAZIONI SONORE by CORELL
Corell's mix is a real exhibition sound performance, we wouldn't be surprised if walking in the middle of a modern art museum we were in front of one of his installations. His sound comes from contrasting sound impacts mixed with small atmospheric melodies. Roman catapults us in front of his constant installation over time.
We caught up in Moscow and we had a little chat with Russian musician Roman Kutnov aka Corell discussing music creation and inspiration, his musical background, and his upcoming projects.
“Optimism” is an attempt to confront that paradigm and liberate the music from the dictatorship of current consumption models and strict functionality. This is reached by adopting and deconstructing the elements of modern electronic music and focusing on what lies beneath them: sparse polymetric beats instead of dance grooves, textures instead of timbres, mutating and morphing loops instead of melodic lines, rhizomatic structures instead of linear compositions.
